WILL MY DATA GET WIPED?
Yes, we use software to securely wipe drives and reset computers. Certificates of data destruction can be provided. Donors can wipe drives before sending in donations or remove the drive. We recommend the free version of KillDisk to wipe drives.
WHAT IS A DIGITAL PRODUCT PASSPORT?
WCE is the only nonprofit to use Digital Product Passport (DPP) software to prove that computers have been data wiped, received, and processed. DPPs are micro-websites created for each device donated. Donors who send in computers by mail and business donors will be sent a link to a DPP once the device has been processed. Read more
WHAT CAN I DONATE?
We accept all functional laptops, desktops and cell phones. However, focus on devices that are less than seven years old because they have more reuse potential. This means not all our collection services are available for all devices. For example, we only accept devices that are less than seven years old by our Mail In program. Our Refurbishment Partners can accept all desktops and laptops. Chapters only accept laptops, no desktops. Contact us before donating to find out the best way to do it.
LAPTOPS
* Less than seven years old preferred.
* No cracked glass.
* It must be functional.
* Missing hard drive is OK.
* No operating system is OK (The hard drive can be wiped).
* No charger is OK.
CELL PHONES & TABLETS
* Less than five years old is preferred.
* Ensure it is not user account locked, such as iCloud locked, Factory Reset Protection or Activation Locked.
* No cracked glass.
* No swollen or dead battery.
DESKTOPS
* Less than seven years old preferred.
* No servers or very large form factors.
* It must be functional (the computer must boot up).
WHAT CAN’T I DONATE?
World Computer Exchange is not a computer or electronics recycling company. We are unable to accept non-functional computers or other electronics devices.
We don’t accept: Printers, scanners, CRT monitors, manuals, bags, Styrofoam, media, and software.
If your computer is very old or non-functional, we recommend recycling it with a local, certified recycling company. Click to find a recycler.
DONATION DETAILS
All donations to World Computer Exchange are unconditional transfers and the donor releases all rights to the donated equipment. World Computer Exchange may use the donated equipment for educational and charitable purposes, send to a third party for scrap recycling, or resell computers to raise funds to support World Computer Exchange’s mission.
