New Computer Lab in Ruiru, Kenya: WCE Teams Up with Project Lucas

This summer, 25 laptops from World Computer Exchange will be delivered to the Project Lucas School in Ruiru, Kenya, where they will power the school’s first computer lab.

Project Lucas is a nonprofit dedicated to educating and empowering children living in extreme poverty. Thanks to this partnership, more than 200 students will now have access to technology that helps equip them for academic and professional success in a digital world.

The impact of this project goes beyond just providing devices—it’s about building opportunity and community. The first June mission team, comprising volunteers from the U.S. and local Kenyan fathers, will construct the lab, laying bricks, installing desks, and setting up the space.

Later in the month, a second mission team will hand-deliver the laptops. Trained computer educators will lead workshops for teachers and students. These sessions will cover basic digital literacy, internet safety, and foundational software skills, a vital starting point for many students interacting with computers for the first time.

For Project Lucas, the goal is clear: to break the cycle of poverty by opening new educational pathways. As Executive Director Scott Dishong puts it, “These computers represent opportunity, dignity, and a step toward breaking the cycle of poverty.” And thanks to a shared mission and partnership with WCE, that vision is becoming a reality.

We are honored to be part of this life-changing project and look forward to seeing the students and teachers in action when the lab officially launches. Stay tuned for photos and stories in our next update as the laptops arrive and the room comes to life!
